On February 23rd, 2024, Dr. Emi Leung and the Keiki Labs team brought the magic of science to the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science (HAAS) in Pahoa. At the Science Expo, over 100 students joined in the excitement as they explored the secrets hidden within a common household item – milk.
Keiki Labs captivated the young audience with engaging demonstrations, revealing the composition and properties of milk. Through experiments showcasing surface tension and the interaction between milk and dish soap, students witnessed the formation of mesmerizing patterns.
The highlight of the day was the swirly magic milk art experiment, where each student became a scientist, creating vibrant designs on the surface of milk. As the expo came to a close, every attendee received a goodie bag containing a handmade milk plastic charm and a flyer teasing future events.
Dr. Emi Leung and the Keiki Labs team departed with hearts full of joy, knowing they had ignited a passion for science in the bright young minds of HAAS. With anticipation, they looked forward to their next adventure in March 2024, promising more excitement with milk plastic and bottle rockets.
The HAAS Science Expo was not just an event; it was a celebration of curiosity, discovery, and the transformative power of science in shaping the minds of tomorrow.
